The Monumental stadium in Cuscatlan was hosting a quarter-final match between Alianza and FAS in El Salvador’s premier division.
At least 12 people have been killed and dozens more are injured after they were “smothered” during a stampede at a football stadium in El Salvador.
The chaos unfolded as supporters pushed through one of the access gates at the Monumental venue in Cuscatlan, around 25 miles north east of the capital San Salvador.
The stadium was hosting a premier division quarter final match between clubs Alianza FC and Club Deportivo FAS when tragedy struck.
