Ex-Minnesota politician sentenced after posting revenge porn of estranged wife on campaign website – By David Matthews (New York Daily News) / May 11 2019

David Martinez, a former candidate for a St. Paul, Minn., City Council seat, received two years of probation after pleading guilty to posting a topless photo of his wife on his campaign website in July 2014.

Martinez claimed at the time that his website had been hacked after the photo was posted a day after his wife filed an order of protection against him.

After denying his involvement for months, Martinez pleaded guilty in March.

As part of his plea, the felony charge was downgraded to a gross misdemeanor — one count of nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images.

Ramsey County District Judge Robert Awsumb ordered Martinez to receive a mental-health evaluation, avoid drugs and alcohol and refrain from having contact with his wife. He could face up to a year in prison if he violates those orders.

Martinez’s bid for a city council seat came to an end when he lost a special election to Mitra Jalali Nelson in August 2018.
