One of Hillary Clinton’s former surrogates reportedly ripped the former Democratic presidential nominee for her “selfishness” and said, “The best thing she could do is disappear.”
“Honestly, I wish she’d just shut the f**k up and go away,” the surrogate said, according to The Hill. That comment appeared to be a response to Clinton’s recently released book, “What Happened,” recounting the 2016 presidential election. Since her loss, Clinton has made many public appearances in which she blamed her loss to now-President Donald Trump on external factors such as Russian meddling.
Some of Clinton’s allies have criticized her for staying the spotlight for so long after the election’s end. “She’s doing harm to all of us because of her own selfishness,” the unnamed surrogate said.
A former aide to former President Barack Obama similarly remarked that Clinton’s public musings about the election weren’t “helpful” or “good for the party.”
“It’s the Hillary Show, 100 percent. A lot of us are scratching our heads and wondering what she’s trying to do. It’s certainly not helpful,” the aide, also unnamed, said.
In excerpts made public from her book, Clinton decried Obama telling her to lay off attacking her opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) during the primaries. Clinton, Obama thought, could leave the party divided before the general election.
In Clinton’s book, however, she mocked Sanders’s policy proposals as far-fetched and suggested his supporters were sexist.
