Georgia Judge Rules to Keep Portions of Controversial Voter Law Ahead of Election – By Alexa Lardieri (US News) / July 7 2021
The judge said it was too late to challenge the law because a run-off election in Georgia is already underway.
A judge in Georgia declined to block part of the state’s controversial voter law ahead of elections next week.
The decision by U.S. District Judge Jean-Paul “J.P.” Boulee, a Trump appointee, did not strike down a portion of the law that changes the deadline for requesting absentee ballots, nor did it make any changes to a provision on election observation.
The voter law was passed in Georgia in March, imposing restrictions that include voter identification requirements for absentee ballots, limiting drop boxes and prohibiting passing out food and water to voters waiting in line.
The judge said that because the plaintiffs sought to challenge the voting law ahead of run-off elections next week, doing so would “change the election administration rules for elections that are already underway, according to The Hill.
