City halls in cities around Germany received the emails.

MAINZ, Germany — Police in Germany evacuated several buildings in at least five cities in Germany on Tuesday after emailed bomb threats were sent to city officials.

A 21-story high rise in the southwestern German city of Kaiserslautern was evacuated after a city hall employee found an email in the general inbox claiming that “an explosive device had been deposited in the building,” a police spokesman told NBC News.

The city of Augsburg in southern Germany also received a bomb threat email overnight, which led to the evacuation of the town hall and a nearby administration building, police there said.

Officials in the city of Göttingen told NBC News that they had received a similar email, and evacuated the building and cordoned off surrounding streets. Not long after, police said in a tweet that roads in the area were being reopened, and while there was no longer any danger in the town hall, it would remain closed for the day.

The multi-story town hall building in the east German city of Chemnitz was also evacuated after a bomb threat was sent to the city’s general email inbox, police confirmed to NBC News. Police were searching the building.

In the northern German city of Rendsburg the local town hall was also evacuated this morning after receiving an email, and experts searched the building, police said.
