Visitors to Honolulu’s city parks may soon see armed park rangers.
A Hawaiian lawmaker is proposing stationing the rangers at parks where homeless encampments are common, because of a growing amount of trash and safety concerns.
He wants locals to vote on a 2018 city charter that would put authorities at the public spaces.
If it passes rangers would be able to address illegal camping, littering, vandalism, and enforce no smoking policies.
The city already has an unarmed park ranger program in place at some parks.
