House Moves To Curb Opioid Shipments Through International Mail – By OAN Newsroom (oann.com) / June 14 2018

House lawmakers adopt a legislation aimed at curbing fentanyl shipments through international mail.

The legislation mandates the USPS provide electronic data on 70 percent of international packages to Customs and Border Protection by the end of the year and 100 percent by late 2020.

The House passed the measure in a 353-52 vote Thursday.

Lawmakers say the bill will help customs officials identify and seize fentanyl shipments from overseas.

The bill is part of a 60 piece legislative package aimed at containing the opioid crisis, in line with President Trump’s agenda.

The legislation is now expected to clear the Senate, where it has a wide bipartisan support.
