In the latest twist in the drama of two Saudis, the Crown Prince denies he sent ‘Tiger Squad’ assassins to Canada – By Tyler Dawson (National Post) / Dec 17 2020
A former Saudi official alleged a team of mercenaries travelled to Canada in October 2018 to execute him
Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, has denied he sent a team of assassins to Canada to execute Saad Aljabri, a former intelligence official living in Canada, and is seeking to have a federal court in the United States dismiss a lawsuit filed by Aljabri in the matter.
The crown prince argues that Aljabri is an international fugitive, wanted for embezzling money from a state counterterrorism fund, and the United States has no jurisdiction to adjudicate the case.
He also argues that as head of state, he would have diplomatic immunity and that Saudi Arabia’s interests cannot be overruled by an American court.
“Those interests include Saudi Arabia’s criminal investigation and prosecution of a former high-level Saudi official and his co-conspirators for corruption, and Saudi Arabia’s efforts to locate that former official — now an international fugitive — and bring him to justice,” the filing argues.
