It’s come to this: Activist group’s Virginia ad shows Republican trying to run down minority children – By Allahpundit (hotair.com) / Oct 30 2017

That’s what the mystery man is trying to do here, right? Run them down. Murder in cold blood. Either that or kidnap them so that he can bring them back to his dungeon and force them to watch “Fox & Friends” until they want to MAGA.

The outfit responsible for this excrescence is Latino Victory, kicking in their contribution to the Democrats’ “Ed Gillespie *is* the alt-right” messaging effort in Virginia. As noted on Friday, Gillespie’s advertising lately has taken a turn towards focusing on crime, including and especially MS-13 and sanctuary cities, and the culture-war hot button of removing Confederate statues. The liberal response to that is double-pronged: (1) scream “scaremongering!” (2) scaremonger the hell out of the race themselves by comparing Gillespie repeatedly to a white nationalist tiki-torcher. (Note what’s playing on the TV at the end of this spot.) You would have thought that the rebel flag and Gillespie bumper sticker on the car would be enough to convey the message, but no, sure enough, there’s a Gadsden-flag license plate too just to make sure tea-party alumni know this is aimed at them as well. It’s a sure sign that you’re in the home stretch of a bitter race when the “my opponents are child predators” ads start running.

The latest poll out of Virginia suggests they’re working. Given the numbers here among nonwhite voters, it’s obvious why Latino Victory would go this route with its ad:
With overwhelming support from non-white voters and double-digit leads among both men and women, Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam holds a 53 – 36 percent likely voter lead over Republican Ed Gillespie in the Virginia governor’s race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Libertarian Party candidate Cliff Hyra has 3 percent…
Non-white likely voters back the Democrat 72 – 15 percent, with 2 percent for Hyra. White voters are divided 46 – 46 percent, with 4 percent for Hyra. Women back Northam 56 – 36 percent, with 1 percent for Hyra. Men go Democratic 51 – 37 percent, with 5 percent for Hyra…
Virginia likely voters disapprove 60 – 34 percent of the job President Donald Trump is doing, compared to a 62 – 35 percent disapproval rating October 18.

That’s from Quinnipiac, whose last two polls of Virginia have been extreme outliers in Northam’s favor. Two weeks ago they had him ahead by 14 points; no other poll this month has had him ahead by more than seven. The good news is that there’s plenty of reason to doubt that Gillespie is trailing this badly. The bad news is that, outlier or not, they have Gillespie falling further behind Northam in the past 12 days. He has eight days to turn it around.

PB/TK – Scaremongering is the best type of political advertising, however that used to be pushing gramma in her wheelchair off a cliff or someone taking your guns. So when does political advertising go to far? How over-patriotic can one candidate be or how far can scaremongering go?
