“It’s Not My Job”: Reba McEntire Says She Won’t Weigh In On Politics – By Brandon Morse (redstate.com) / Dec 12 2018

Breath in that fresh air of art untainted by the rot of politics.

You can’t turn on the television without hearing a celebrity give his or her political opinion, and with most of it leaning to the left, it gets a little tiring to hear. What little we do get on the right is so eagerly consumed that we sometimes jump the gun on signing on to a fandom, only to find out the person was a fraud or just someone we shouldn’t be celebrating in the first place.

Reba McEntire won’t put us in that position, however. According to The Hill, when it comes to talking about politics the “Fancy” singer told a reporter “that’s not my job.”

When pressed as to her thoughts about other politicians weighing in politically, McEntire gave the most American and adult answer ever.

“That’s why it’s so great to live here in the United States of America,” McEntire replied. “You can vote in and you can say what you want to,” McEntire said, “and you can choose not to say what you want to.”

This is a breath of fresh air in the midst of the Kanye’s, Swift’s, and (insert Hollywood celebrity here)’s of the world. As I’ve repeatedly said, injecting politics into our escapism makes art far less enjoyable. This is something that McEntire seems to understand.

“They have paid their hard-earned money to come in there and fill a seat” I am there to entertain them,” McEntire once said, according to The Hill. “To take their worries away from them, so when they walk out, they can kind of have a lift in their step and just go, ‘Oh that was such a great break from all the problems I have to deal with during daily life.’”

Regardless, McEntire doesn’t seem to be ashamed of having political connections. She has maintained a friendship with the Bush family, even performing at the funeral for George H.W. Bush, and posting this picture of her and the late former president on Instagram.

But personal relationships aside, it’s great that McEntire keeps her political opinions to herself, and doesn’t alienate any of her fans with forceful opinions and judgments about other’s political leanings.

This seems to be something she shares with another of country music’s legends, Dolly Parton, who separated herself from her 9 to 5 co-stars Lilly Tomlin and Jane Fonda when they used their time during an awards ceremony to bash President Donald Trump.

“I don’t do politics,” she told Fox and Friends after the event.

“Plus, I’m an entertainer. I don’t usually voice my opinion in a situation like that,” added Parton.
