On Wednesday, the Kansas State Board of Education voted to block the governor’s executive order that pushed school start dates into September, according to The Hill.
- Gov. Laura Kelly’s (D) order would have barred schools, public or private, from resuming classes until September 8. In the current policy, local districts can decide for themselves when they wish to reopen.
- The GOP-led state legislature ruled that executive orders from the governor on school reopenings must be approved by the school board. As a result, the split 5-5 vote on the move was enough to block the order.
