Kanye West calls Parkland’s Emma Gonzalez his ‘hero,’ but she deflects the compliment – By Carly Mallenbaum (usatoday.com) / April 29 2018
Kanye West called Parkland shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez his hero, and she was not impressed.
The rapper, who just released new music after angering his fan base by wearing a Make America Great Again hat and complimenting President Trump’s “dragon energy,” posted a photo of the high school senior with the caption “my hero Emma Gonzalez.”
Some of West’s followers, who the artist had appealed to with his pro-Trump posts, weren’t please with the post, replying “BOOOOO” and “U need help.”
And Gonzalez herself deflected the compliment Saturday.
“My hero James Shaw Jr.,” she tweeted, with a photo of the man who disarmed the Waffle House shooter in Tennessee and his daughter.
Shaw, who sustained an injury wrestling an AR-15 out of the hands of mass shooting suspect Travis Reinking, prevented further bloodshed at the restaurant. After his heroic actions, he went on to raise money for victims.

West didn’t appear to acknowledge Gonzalez’s reply, but posted a second tweet, apparently about her. “Inspired by Emma” he wrote, with a selfie.
