    Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday appeared to cave slightly to intensifying calls for witnesses to be allowed at President Trump’s impeachment trial, saying he hasn’t “ruled out” the possibility completely.

    McConnell — who has previously suggested he wants to quickly acquit Trump of both articles of impeachment without calling a single witness — raised the prospect after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer renewed his push for a “full and fair” trial in light of a bombshell revelation about Trump’s freeze on U.S. military aid to Ukraine.

    “We haven’t ruled out witnesses,” McConnell (R-Ky.) said in an interview on “Fox & Friends,” Trump’s favorite morning show. “We’ve said let’s handle this case just like we did with President Clinton. Fair is fair.”

    During Clinton’s 1999 trial, the Senate did not decide on which witnesses to call until the trial proceedings were underway.

    McConnell didn’t elaborate on which witnesses he may ultimately consider calling for Trump’s trial, which is expected to start in January.
