There was Tokyo Rose in WWII then later Baghdad Bob during the Persian Gulf War…. Now we have the Pink Lady from North Korea. Then again the US has Alex Jones, so it balances out – PB/TK

North Korea’s Pink Lady: Your Doomsday Announcer – By Clyde Hughes (newsmax.com)/ Sept 5 2017

If North Korea’s “Pink Lady” Ri Chun-hee comes on state-run television it’s going to be bad news. The country’s designated doomsday announcer appears almost every time Dear Leader Kim Jong-un realizes another nuke success.

Ri Chun-hee, 74, a veteran anchor on North Korea’s Central Television, officially retired in 2012, but she returns to the airways to make important military announcements, as The Guardian pointed out. Known for her trademark pink-colored wardrobe, her delivery is described as booming and with gusto.

“The test of a hydrogen bomb designed to be mounted on our intercontinental ballistic missile was a perfect success,” Ri said over the weekend while announcing North Korea’s most powerful nuclear detonation to date, per The Guardian. “It was a very meaningful step in completing the national nuclear weapons program.”

Nicknamed “the people’s broadcaster,” Ri grew up poor in Tongchong and studied performance art at Pyongyang University of Theatre before being debuting at KCTV in 1971.

“She’s the perfect person to voice North Korea’s hardline stance,” Ahn Chan-il, a high-ranking North Korean defector living South Korea, told Reuters. “There is no one else who has that power in her voice as she does. It’s just right for talking about nuclear weapons or missiles.”

Reuters said Ri cried on-air while announcing that North Korea’s founder Kim Il Sung died in 1994. She traded her tradition pink outfit for black funeral clothes in 2011 when his son Kim Jong Il died in 2011.

Ri said in a 2012 interview upon her retirement that she wanted to help train the next generation of North Korean broadcasters, saying they were younger and better suited for the current viewing public.

“When we read to people in the DPRK, you shouldn’t shout but speak gently to viewers,” Ri said then, per Reuters.
