Officials in Ohio county declare racism a public health crisis – By Tim Balk (New York Daily News) / May 20 2020
Commissioners in Franklin County, Ohio, on Tuesday issued a declaration recognizing racism as a public health crisis.
“Our declaration today is important, but it’s not saying anything that hasn’t been apparent for a long time,” Commissioner Kevin Boyce said in a statement. “COVID-19 has highlighted the health divide between black and white Ohioans.”
Franklin County, the home to the state capital of Columbus, is the most populous county in the Buckeye State, and it has recorded the state’s steepest coronavirus caseload, according to Ohio health authorities. (Lucas County has the state’s highest death toll.)
