Orrin Hatch: ‘I’d Be Happy to Look Into’ Trump’s Alleged Tax Fraud – By Theodore Bunker (newsmax.com) / Oct 4 2018
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, would “be happy to look into” The New York Times’ allegations that President Donald Trump fraudulently avoided taxes on money inherited from his parents, CNN reports.
The Times report claims that Trump and his siblings used sham corporations to hide hundreds of millions in taxable income given to them by their parents, and that the president himself helped his father, Fred Trump, take improper tax deductions and drastically undervalue their real estate holdings.
“It’s funny they wouldn’t bring that up by the election,” Hatch said in an interview on CNN Wednesday evening. “I’d be happy to look into it. But right now, I don’t know enough about it.”
The senator added that Trump “may have to give up” his tax returns, which the president did not release during the 2016 campaign. Hatch also said that “if I was him, I wouldn’t want to give them up.”
Trump’s attorney, Charles Harder, denied the Times report, saying in a statement to the newspaper that the allegations are “100 percent false, and highly defamatory.”
