Polls Show Young, Educated Republicans Abandoning Trump – By Theodore Bunker (newsmax.com) / Sept 19 2017

President Donald Trump’s base of support is fracturing, according to CNN, which notes that recent polls show college-educated Republicans under 50 are abandoning the president.

Based on Gallup’s daily tracking poll from Trump’s first month in office, the president received support from four-in-five Republicans both with and without a bachelor’s degree.

  • 88 percent of Republicans age 50 and over rated Trump’s first month positively.
  • 79 percent of Republicans under age 50 rated his first month positively.
  • 83 percent of college-educated Republicans rated his first month positively.

However, by August Trump’s approval rating from college-educated Republicans dropped 12 points from his first month.

Support from Republicans without a college degree, one of Trump’s strongest demographics, dropped that month as well. His standing among Republicans over 50 dipped slightly, but his support among those younger than 50 dropped much further, and his disapproval rating from younger Republicans is almost double the disapproval rating of older Republicans.

  • 71 percent of college-educated Republicans rated his August performance positively.
  • 77 percent of non-college-educated Republicans rated his August performance positively.
  • 82 percent of Republicans over 50 rated his August performance positively.
  • 67 percent of Republicans under 50 rated his August performance positively.
  • 28 percent of young Republicans disapproved of his performance.
  • 15 percent of older Republicans disapproved of his performance.

Pew Research Center, CNN polls, and state polls taken by Marist/MBC in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, show that “considerably fewer Republicans who are college-educated or younger than 50 said they approved of Trump’s performance,” according to CNN’s Ronald Brownstein.

“The problem for the party is they have handcuffed themselves to an anchor that is on the wrong side of history,” John Weaver, a Republican consultant who works for Ohio Gov. John Kasich, told CNN.

“I don’t know the answer to whether Trump can be beat in a primary yet,” he added. “Ultimately the party is at a fork in the road — do we go down a Trump-ian path that is going to be on the wrong side of history on so many issues and is not viable nationally … or do we throw off the yoke of Trumpism and build toward the future? I don’t know if we get there in 2018 or 2020 or 2022, but whenever we do, it’s not going to be a pretty process.”

PB/TK – OK everyone calm down, it’s only 8 months into his presidency and 40 more to go, but Pew Research and Gallup are very reputable in survey. Oh wait these are positive POTUS numbers
