Portland named top 10 vegan-friendly city in the world – By Michael Russell (The Oregonian/OregonLive) / Jan 29, 2024
It’s already been a very good month for Portland’s vegan food scene. January brought the fourth annual Vegan Dining Month, with dozens of participating restaurants showcasing special dishes. Meanwhile, chef Aaron Adams (Portobello, Farm Spirit, Fermenter) announced the launch of Astera, his latest take on plant-based finer dining.
It should come as no surprise, then, that HappyCow, a vegan food mapping app, named Portland as the top city in the United States for vegan food, echoing a WalletHub report from 2023.
Timed to coincide with Veganuary, a campaign that encourages people to try vegan food in January, the HappyCow report named Portland as the 6th best city for vegan food world-wide.
The ranking took into account each city’s “number of exclusively vegan restaurants, the number of vegan-friendly businesses, their densities in each city and the growth of each year-over-year,” as well as an assessment of “vegan consumer products, public vegan awareness, and the strength of the local vegan community,” according to HappyCow.
