Pres. Trump derides previous administrations for not telling him about Paul Manafort’s alleged crimes before he hired him to run his 2016 campaign.
In a tweet on Wednesday, the president said Manafort worked for Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole and many highly prominent and respected political leaders. He said Manafort “worked for me for a very short time. Why didn’t the government tell me he was under investigation.”

The president continued saying the charges predated his campaign and have nothing to do with the alleged collusion with Russia, saying it’s a hoax. His comments come as Manafort’s trial enters its second day of proceedings.
Manafort was indicted by a grand jury as a part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into alleged Russian meddling in U.S. affairs.
