President Trump swore in the new secretary of Homeland Security.
During Friday’s ceremony he said Kirstjen Nielsen will take the department to new levels.
Vice President Mike Pence administered the oath of office with Nielsen’s family also in attendance.

She spoke briefly, thanking acting Secretary Elaine Duke, who had filled the vacancy created when John Kelly became President Trump’s chief of staff.
Nielsen formly worked as a devoted deputy to Kelly, and is the first secretary to have experience at the DHS before serving.
The president also touted the declining rate of illegal immigration to the U.S. during his speech at the ceremony.

PB/TK – With all the news of natural disasters and political scandals there is some business getting done in DC, but since the DHS Sec pick wasn’t controversial, her swearing in ceremony got pushed to the back pages. Congrats Ms Nielsen
