Removal of limit on how much alcohol Quebecers can bring home from other provinces applauded – By Jessica Mundie (National Post) / March 16, 2022

The rule change, which goes into effect on April 7, will apply to alcohol that was bought in person — not online — and is for personal consumption, not for resale

Canadian taxpayer and constitutional freedom groups are celebrating a decision that lets Quebecers bring as much alcohol from other provinces and territories as they want back home.

The Government of Quebec announced Tuesday that it is removing the limit on the amount of alcohol purchased in another Canadian province or territory that a person may bring back into Quebec. This amendment, which goes into effect on April 7, will apply to alcohol that was bought in person — not online — and is for personal consumption, not for resale. It must also be carried on the person or in their luggage.

“We see this as a definite step in the right direction as it will increase tax competition and help Quebecers get a better deal and keep a little bit more money in their pockets,” said Renaud Brossard, Quebec director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, in a statement.
