States with Republican governors dominate the lists of both the states with the lowest, and record-lowest, unemployment rates, according to statistics for June 2023 released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Out of the 10 states with the lowest unemployment rates last month, eight boast Republican governors, as Maryland (#5) and Maine (#8) were the only Democrat-led states to make the cut:
NH 1.8% – (record low) – GOP
SD 1.8% – (record low) – GOP
NE 1.9% (record low) – GOP
VT 1.9% (record low) – GOP
MD 2.0% (record low) – DEM
ND 2.0% (record low) – GOP
AL 2.2% (record low) – GOP
ME 2.4% (record low) – DEM
MT 2.4% – GOP
UT 2.4% – GOP
