Texas Senator Ted Cruz posted on social media Friday night that he’s offering a chance to win a date with none other than, himself. The fundraising effort comes on the final day of May, and the post hit five hours before deadline.
Cruz has offered a barbeque dinner with him in Houston sometime in the future if his Twitter followers respond within the five-hour window.
“You, me, and BBQ in Houston, Texas!

And though a plethora of Texas barbeque joints operate in Houston, and Texas in general, the senator didn’t say where the location of this date would be.
The fundraiser didn’t actually kickstart before the Friday deadline. It began Tuesday when he tweeted, “We’re kicking off our #CruzCrew Spring Fundraising Drive today, and we’ve set up a VERY special opportunity… one lucky supporter and their guest will have dinner with Ted in Houston, Texas! Any donation of $5 or more will get you into the contest. Donate below to be entered automatically!”
Cruz is no neophyte when it comes to gimmicks for raising either money or awareness to himself. When former Duke basketball player Grayson Allen was a phenom, Cruz posted his comparisons to Allen.
