Ted Cruz on Trump’s Amnesty Compromise: FORGET IT! – By Susan Wright (redstate.com) / Jan 25 2018
Breitbart has labeled President Trump “Amnesty Don,” after he announced on Wednesday that he would be open to signing off on a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, as part of a DACA fix.
Not every Republican is on board with the compromise.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz is a firm “No,” regarding the amnesty giveaway.
“I do not believe we should be granting a path to citizenship to anybody here illegally,” Cruz told reporters, according to Bloomberg. “Doing so is inconsistent with the promises we made to the men and women who elected us.”
“For some reason that to me is utterly inexplicable, we see Republicans falling all over themselves to gallop to the left of [former President] Obama in a way that is contrary to the promises made to the voters who elected us,” he added.
Hey, Trumpsters: That feeling when the man you rejected during the primaries sounds more like the guy you chose than the guy you chose sounds.
For Trump, he’s ready to compromise, in order to get a border wall paid for.
That would be the border wall that he insisted Mexico would pay for.
Trump wants $25 billion in taxpayer money to build a wall, and in return, he’s ready to give illegals amnesty.
“We’re going to morph into it,” Trump said. “It’s going to happen, at some point in the future, over a period of 10 to 12 years.”
You could also read that as Trump morphing into a liberal Democrat, over time.
Maybe not “morphing into” so much as it’s “going back to.”
Meanwhile, whether it’s rolling back regulations, the tax bill, or appointing Neil Gorsuch, there isn’t a thing he’s done that isn’t what would have been done by just about any other Republican voters had available to choose from during the primaries.
The difference is, we’d have had a president without all the scandalous baggage and weekly Twitter blow-ups.
There’d be no Russia probe, no Republican lawmakers attempting to tear down our nation’s premiere law enforcement agency, and our allies wouldn’t be sitting on pins and needles, waiting for the next diplomatic embarrassment
DACA protections will begin to expire for those covered by the program on March 5.
Negotiators are now working on a deal that would replace DACA with legislation protecting the so-called Dreamers. It would be paired with border security measures and changes to other immigration programs.
Donald Trump: The moderate appeaser his fans never thought he’d be.
