Texas Residents Evacuate Over Possible Chemical Plant Explosion – By OAN Newsroom (oann.com) / Aug 30 201
Residents in South Texas evacuate as concern grows over a potential explosion at a nearby chemical plant.
Fire marshals instructed residents in Crosby to evacuate Tuesday as a precautionary measure since it’s located within a two mile perimeter of the Arkema site.
Officials warned the situation had become serious following heavy flooding from Harvey.
Back-up generators stopped working along with refrigerators used to store organic peroxides.
It is crucial that these chemicals are kept at a low temperature, otherwise combustion is highly probable.
Arkema employees attempted to transfer the hazardous materials from the warehouse to diesel-powered refrigerator containers until officials deemed the situation too dangerous.
All staff were evacuated from the plant, and the company is now working with the DHS to set up a command post near the site.
