Ayub Ali was shot and killed in his convenience store in North Lauderdale, Florida this week. He leaves behind four children, two of whom are survivors of the Parkland school shooting.
According to a Miami NBC affiliate, 61-year-old Ali was killed by a robber who entered his store Tuesday night. Police are still searching for the suspect who was caught on surveillance footage.
“He took money from the cash register and left. The thief returned shortly after and shot Ali,” Broward County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The suspect wore a black vest, reddish-orange shorts with a black and white stripe on the sides, reddish-orange slides and a skull cap with ‘Miami’ stitched on the front.”
Local law enforcement is offering a reward to anyone with information that helps lead to the suspect.
Deputies from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office found Ali injured in his office, and he was pronounced dead later that night at Fort Lauderdale’s Broward Health Medical Center.
It is unclear if the suspect legally owned the firearm he used to kill Ali.

Ali had a son and daughter who attend Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. They survived the shooting that left 17 dead and 17 more injured just five months ago.
Since the shooting, some parents of victims and student survivors have sparked the nationwide “March For Our Lives” movement. They speak out again the gun violence and the NRA and rally young people to vote.
Earlier this week, three high school coaches who were killed in the shooting were honored at the ESPYs with the Best Coach award.
