Should all five measures pass, recreational cannabis will be legal in almost half of the US.
President Joe Biden’s pardoning of federal simple marijuana possession convictions has brought cannabis legalization back to the forefront, especially as Biden has urged all governors to do the same with state offenses.
“Just as no one should be in a federal prison solely due to the possession of marijuana, no one should be in a local jail or state prison for that reason, either,” he said in an Oct. 6 statement.
Currently, 38 states have legalized medical marijuana and 19 have approved cannabis for recreational purposes, or “adult use.”
Legalization failed to make it on the ballot in time in Oklahoma, but five other states will be voting on legalizing recreational marijuana during the Nov. 8 midterm elections.
