Conservative pundit Tomi Lahren made headlines earlier this year when she was fired from Glenn Beck’s media company TheBlaze after telling the ladies of The View that she’s pro-choice. After a flurry of litigation—she sued Beck for wrongful termination; he countersued her; they settled out of court—Lahren is now working for a nonprofit dedicated to advancing Donald Trump’s agenda. That means she’s got some opinions on birth control and a woman’s right to access affordable contraception that don’t exactly line up with reality.
In an interview with Marie Claire, Lahren said that she, like many conservatives, isn’t “against access to birth control” but is uneasy about funding organizations like Planned Parenthood because they provide abortions—and thinks the cost of birth control isn’t high enough to necessitate government subsidies.
“I can’t speak for every woman, but my birth control is covered by my insurance, and if it weren’t covered, it would cost $9 a month,” Lahren said. “I don’t know a lot of women who can’t afford $9 a month. I can understand that maybe there are some who can’t afford that, but I just don’t think birth control is so outrageously expensive that government funding for it is necessary.”
