Trump Cuts ‘Red Tape’ to Symbolize Goal of Reducing Regulations to Level in 1960 – By Conor Beck (freebeacon.com) / Dec 14 2017
President Donald Trump held an event Thursday celebrating his administration’s goal of pursuing the most “far-reaching regulatory reform in American history.”
“Instead of eliminating two old regulations for every one new regulation, we have eliminated 22. That’s a big difference,” Trump said.
Trump credited his slashing of regulations for the strong economy and stock market and mentioned that small business optimism is at its highest point in 34 years.
“And we are just getting started,” Trump said.
Trump made use of visuals during his event, with a graphic showing how many steps one needed to go through to get permits for a highway.
The biggest visual was piles of paper comparing regulations today to regulations in 1960 covered with red tape.
Trump said there used to be approximately 20,000 pages in the code of federal regulations, compared to over 185,000 today.
Trump said he wants to get under 1960 levels while still protecting workers’ safety and the environment.
“Together, let’s cut the red tape,” Trump said. “Let’s set free our dreams, and yes, let’s make America great again. One of the ways we’re going to do that is by getting rid of a lot of unnecessary regulation. Thank you very much.”

PB/TK – Cutting regulations makes a lot of sense, however cutting nearly 57 years worth seems a bit of a astronomical step. OK so how many of those regulations aren’t even in use today?
