Trump Tweets at 3 A.M. to Rant About CNN – By Shane Croucher (newsweek.com) / Oct 26 2018
President Donald Trump was already up and tweeting around 3 a.m. this morning, taking aim at “lowly rated CNN” as critics link his rhetoric to the mail bombs sent to senior Democrats and other political opponents.
Trump tweeted at 3.14 a.m. ET: “Funny how lowly rated CNN, and others, can criticize me at will, even blaming me for the current spate of Bombs and ridiculously comparing this to September 11th and the Oklahoma City bombing, yet when I criticize them they go wild and scream, ‘it’s just not Presidential!’”
Explosive devices were sent in manilla envelopes to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, ex-President Barack Obama, former CIA director John Brennan via the CNN offices in New York City, former Attorney General Eric Holder, ex-Vice President Joe Biden, Rep. Maxine Waters, actor Robert DeNiro, and billionaire Democratic donor George Soros.
The FBI is investigating and fears more mail bombs could be out there. Investigators have so far made no statements on a potential suspect or motive. However, both left and right have sought to pin the blame on each other.
Liberals blame Trump and his supporters’ rhetoric for creating a dangerous political climate, fuelling hate and anger that increase the risk of incidents such as the mail bombs.

Pro-Trump conservatives accuse left-wing groups such as Antifa of being violent mobs, and some are peddling a baseless conspiracy theory that the mail bombs are a so-called “false flag” operation by Democrats ahead of the midterms.
Congresswoman Waters, a prominent critic of Trump who is campaigning for his impeachment, told Blavity News that the president “should take responsibility for the kind of violence that we are seeing for the first time in different ways.”
“I think the president of the United States has been dog-whistling to his constituency, making them believe that their problems are caused by those people over there,” Waters said.
“And I think they are acting in a way that they think the president wants them to do and the way he wants them to act.”
CNN President Jeff Zucker also rebuked Trump after the mail bombs.
“There is a total and complete lack of understanding at the White House about the seriousness of their continued attacks on the media. The president, and especially the White House Press Secretary, should understand their words matter. Thus far, they have shown no comprehension of that,” Zucker said in a statement.
But Michael Savage, the conservative host of radio show Savage Nation, which has an audience of millions every week, claimed there was a “high probability that the whole thing had been set up as a false flag to gain sympathy for the Democrats number one, and number two, to get our minds off the hordes of illegal aliens approaching our southern border.”
When challenged by a caller, who said Savage’s comments were “so far off the edge it’s irresponsible,” Savage replied: “Because you say it’s irresponsible doesn’t make it irresponsible, it means you’re not able to think outside your own box… All your fear buttons have been hit. That’s exactly what Soros and company want you to feel. I’m saying question authority.”
Dinesh D’Souza, the conservative author and filmmaker pardoned by Trump for a felony conviction of making illegal campaign contributions, pushed the false flag conspiracy heavily on his Twitter account. D’Souza wrote: “I hear the FBI squeezed lemon juice on the suspicious packages and a very faint lettering revealed a single word: DEMOCRATS.”
