Veteran accused in alleged border wall scheme faces new charges – By John Bowden (The Hill) / May 6 2021
The pro-Trump activist and military veteran who was charged last year over a campaign to build a section of privately-maintained border wall along a stretch of land near El Paso, Texas, now faces an additional federal charge.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that Brian Kolfage, the public face of We Build The Wall, was charged this week with filing a false tax return that improperly hid money that entered his personal bank account from the campaign, which he pledged initially would not personally benefit him or other organizers.
If convicted, Kolfage could face thousands of dollars in fines from the IRS.
The charge comes on top of charges he was slapped with alongside fellow organizers Steve Bannon, formerly of Breitbart News, Andrew Badolato and Timothy Shea last year that include conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
