Will Cruz lose in 2024? New ranking shows Ted Cruz may be vulnerable – By Michael Murney (Chron) / July 27, 2023
The incumbent Republican’s two potential challengers boast strong name recognition and impressive fundraising numbers ahead of the 2024 election.
Ted Cruz ranks among the U.S. Senators most likely to lose their seat to a challenger in the 2024 elections, according to a new analysis.
CNN Thursday ranked Cruz ninth among the 10 Senate seats most likely to flip in 2024. Dallas-area U.S. Rep. Colin Allred’s fundraising efforts signal potential trouble for Cruz coming into 2024. According to CNN, Allred has already raised more money than Beto O’Rourke had by this point in the 2018 election cycle, when O’Rourke came within a few percentage points of upsetting Cruz. Allred has raised $6.2 million and transferred another $2 million from his House campaign so far.
Allred’s viability as a challenger goes beyond money. Per CNN, the Texas Democrat also carries strong name recognition in Texas as a former NFL player and has a track record of flipping seats from red to blue.
