California sets date for Gavin Newsom recall election: What to know – By Eric Ting (SFGATE) / July 1 2021
After the Gavin Newsom recall petition cleared remaining procedural hurdles Thursday, California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis announced recall election day will be Sept. 14.
That date is earlier than initially expected after the state legislature waived its cost analyzing period, with Democratic lawmakers stating that they hoped to hold the election prior to the worst of wildfire and power blackout season when Newsom could be in greater political jeopardy. Most observers originally thought the election would be held in November.
That mid-September date is the earliest county officials said they would be able to conduct an election. The counties said that if the election were held any earlier, they would not be able to print enough ballots
The recall election ballot will have two questions. The first question will be something along the lines of, “Should Gavin Newsom be recalled?” and the second question will then ask voters to pick a candidate to replace Newsom.
