    As the delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread, renewed scrutiny has been placed on Republicans to convince those reluctant to get the coronavirus vaccine to change their minds.

    In many cases, those who are shunning the vaccine are the same people who voted for former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Across the country, comparisons between low vaccine rates and high Trump support has been documented.

    As of July 6, the average vaccine rate in counties that voted for Trump nationwide was just 35%, according to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation. The average vaccination rate nationwide in counties that voted for President Joe Biden was near 47%, and the gap between red and blue counties is growing, KFF said.

    The same holds true in Pennsylvania, with a few exceptions.

    When PennLive studied county-by-county vaccination rates versus those who voted for Trump during the 2020 election, several counties were found to buck the national trend.
