Police Arrest Two Teens in Beating of Sikh in California – By Jason Devaney (newsmax.com) / Aug 8 2018
Police arrested two teenagers Wednesday in the case of a brutal beating of a 71-year-old Sikh man in California.
According to KCRA, 18-year-old Tyrone McAllister and a 16-year-old minor were taken into custody two days after Sahib Singh was badly beaten in a park.
The attack occurred in Manteca, which lies roughly 75 miles east of San Francisco, and was caught on surveillance video. Singh does not speak English and the attack appeared to be unprovoked.
The attackers kicked Singh to the ground, which knocked the turban off his head. They kicked him multiple times while he was on the ground and spit on him after that.
McAllister’s father is the chief of the nearby Union City Police Department, according to KCRA. The network reported the 18-year-old is estranged from his family.
“The public’s assistance in providing information with this case was instrumental in identifying the suspects and allowed my investigators to make a quick arrest,” Sgt. Wayne Miller of the Manteca Police Department told KCRA.
Last week, another Sikh man was attacked in nearby Stanislaus County. His attackers yelled, “Go back to your country!” as he was beaten. In that case, the Sikh was putting up campaign signs for a Republican candidate for office before the attack occurred.
Police are probing whether the incidents can be classified as hate crimes.
