Since President Donald Trump was elected, Town of Palm Beach officials have said they would try to keep down security costs when Trump is in town.
According to Public Safety Director Kirk Blouin, that plan hasn’t changed with the possibility that Trump could visit Mar-a-Lago nearly every weekend from now until May. FAA restrictions put in place Monday indicate he plans to return Friday for the President’s Day weekend.
The town has allowed the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to handle the bulk of security measures with the Secret Service when Trump is here. Blouin has said the town provides one officer from the Palm Beach Police Department, usually an off-duty officer who is paid overtime, and a Palm Beach Fire-Rescue paramedic who already is working.
Exactly how much the town has spent on Trump-related security wasn’t available, Blouin said, because such a record does not exist and would have to take into account the salary of each officer who worked on the security detail.
