Report: Trump’s Personal Lawyer Bragged to Friends That He Got NY US Attorney Preet Bhahara Fired – By David Bixenspan / June 13 2017
While presidents can fire U.S. Attorneys and usually ask those appointed by the previous administration to resign, Trump had specifically asked Bharara to stay on the job during a November meeting at Trump Tower. In March, Trump asked Bharara and all other U.S. Attorneys to resign, and when Bharara refused, he was fired.
“This guy is going to get you,” said Kasowitz according to one source cited in the report. However, ProPublica also included this passage:
“Those who know Kasowitz say he is sometimes prone to exaggerating when regaling them with his exploits. But if true, his assertion adds to the mystery surrounding the motive and timing of Bharara’s firing.”
The Southern District of New York, because it includes Manhattan, has jurisdiction over any potential federal crimes that could have been committed at Trump Tower.
