Suspicious device found near Santa Clarita protest – By Daily News (LA Daily) / June 4 2020
A sheriff’s bomb squad removed the device from the area where protesters began their demonstration Thursday afternoon. Due to the peaceful nature of the protest, the city canceled its curfew.
A sheriff’s department bomb squad removed a suspicious device found Thursday near the location of a Santa Clarita protest over the death of Minnesota man George Floyd at the hands of police.
With deputies out in force and the National Guard in the area, the city was ready for things to get out of control. And that was before the bomb squad responded.
But since the protest turned out to be peaceful, Santa Clarita officials decided to cancel a planned curfew that was designed to cut off the protest — and clear the streets — at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, that suspicious devicefound near the Shell gas station at McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard — the site where Thursday’s protest began — was taken from the scene by the sheriff’s Arson and Explosives Detail, said the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
While the bomb squad was working on the device, other deputies kept protesters away from the area.
