    Activist group contends state appeals-court ruling calls into question legality of armed teachers in Ohio – By Keith BieryGolick (Cincinnati Enquirer) / March 31 2020

    Four years ago, two students were shot in the cafeteria of a Butler County school in southwestern Ohio. The shooter, a 14-year-old student, was convicted of attempted murder and sent to juvenile detention until he turns 21.

    After that and other school shootings across the country, officials in the Madison Local School District began the process of arming school employees. They had dealt with one shooting, and they didn’t want another.

    But the process proved not to be simple. It led to billboards posted by the county sheriff, protests near Madison Jr./Sr. High School in Madison Township near Middletown, and one grandfather being escorted out of the library by a police officer during a school board meeting.

    It also led to a lawsuit.

    On Monday, an Ohio appeals court ruled that the school district did not follow the law in implementing its program to arm teachers in 2018. The court ordered the district to halt its program unless more rigorous training is completed.
