College scandal: Seven months in prison for Atherton mom who ‘gloated’ – By John Woolfolk (Mercury News) / March 31 2020

Elizabeth Henriquez to begin sentence June 30

An Atherton mother who prosecutors said gloated with a daughter and a test fixer about cheating in the college admissions scandal was sentenced Tuesday to seven months in prison.

Elizabeth Henriquez, 57, had asked that she be sentenced to five months and be allowed to serve her sentence on home arrest, citing fears of exposure to the potentially deadly coronavirus in prison.

Prosecutors had sought 26 months in prison for Henriquez, the longest they have requested to date for a parent in the highly publicized case dubbed Operation Varsity Blues. Her husband, Manuel Henriquez, a founder and former chief executive of Hercules Capital in Palo Alto, is scheduled to be sentenced April 8. Prosecutors are recommending 18 months in prison for Manuel Henriquez.

The couple pleaded guilty Oct. 21.
