‘Fox and Friends’ Cuts From Breaking Thai Cave News for Clinton 2020 Speculation – By Paul Leblanc (newsweel.com) / July 8 2018
Popular Fox News Morning show Fox and Friends broke from its coverage of the rescue efforts surrounding the Thailand Soccer team trapped in a cave to cover a New York Post Op-Ed that speculated Hillary Clinton might run for President again in 2020.
“Does Hillary Clinton think the third time could be a charm for 2020?” host Pete Hegseth asked. “In an op-ed, New York Post columnist and former Obama voter Michael Goodwin thinks she is definitely up to something.”
The Op-Ed, which largely relied on Clinton’s emails to supporters, speculated that Clinton is interested in a third presidential run in 2020. “For now, I am convinced Clinton wants to go for it,” columnist Michael Goodwin wrote.
“With the Democratic Party locked in a battle between its far left wing and its far, far left wing, no single leader has emerged to unite it. Clinton is trying to play that role by being a mother hen to the fledgling activists drawn to politics by their hatred of Trump,” the column added.
“Clearly never too early to speculate,” Hegseth said during the segment. “Which we’re doing this morning.”
The speculation over a potential Clinton presidential run came as the first members of the youth Thailand soccer team were rescued from the cave they’ve been trapped in for weeks. The network’s coverage of Clinton drew criticism from viewers online.
“It’s amazing how Fox News can’t stop attacking Hillary Clinton even when she isn’t a real political threat anymore,” one user tweeted in response to the network’s promotion of the Op-Ed. “She lost in 2016 but they refuse to move on! I guess anything to distract from the disaster that is Trump’s presidency …”
“There is no real news coming from Fox,” another user tweeted in response to the same tweet from the network promoting the Op-Ed. “It’s just there spin of the actual news. Take it apart make it fit their narrative. It’s what they do.”
President Trump has repeatedly praised Fox and Friends for its defense of his administration’s policies even as he’s tried to discredit other news organizations.
“The fake news media is going crazy with their conspiracy theories and blind hatred,” he tweeted in February 2017. “@msnbc and @cnn are unwatchable. @foxandfriends is great!”
“Thank you to @foxandfriends for exposing the truth,” Trump also said in February. “Perhaps that’s why your ratings are soooo much better than your untruthful competition!”
