Anyone know the statute of limitations for an accused TV newser to get back on television?
Ok maybe I worded that oddly, but I’m just wondering how long does it take for a tv personality – like that of a news commentator/host – not to be toxic and return to tv after controversy.
I asked this because the other day I was flipping through the channels and saw Mark Halperin sitting comfy on “set” at Newsmax.
Two things came to mind; 1- Halperin was fired from liberal leaning MSNBC for sexual misconduct allegations 3-5 years ago and 2 – Newsmax is uber-conservative so why hire a “liberal” talking head
The 2nd question is easy, as it’s a trend to hire tv “talent” regardless of their past employer, some are there to show a “balance” if you will, others, well it’s a recognizable face that brings a following.
But it’s the 1st question – Halperin was fired for sexual misconduct in which something like 12, 13, 14 women (my apologies but the # changes depending on the source) slapped allegations against him to their MSNBC bosses way back in 2017.
So, I guess the magic # to return is 3 years because in Oct/Nov 2020 is when Halperin inked his deal with Newsmax. https://www.motherjones.com/media/2020/11/mark-halperin-newsmax/
Hey don’t get me wrong, everyone deserves to earn a buck, yet is it no surprise that he ended up at a conservative outlet, i mean after all he did get praise from many on the Right when he called then POTUS Obama a “dick” on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
But what about the likes of Former FOX folks like Ed Henry and Eric Bolling or even Bill O’Reilly, all 3 hit with sexual misconduct allegations in recent past.
Now O’Reilly no one should worry about, his got an obscene following and honestly, in my opinion, he should’ve been the successor to the late Rush Limbaugh programming.
But what about Bolling and Henry? Bolling was toxic after his “issues” got him fired from FOX in 2017 and recently resurfaced by signing a deal this past June with…. Newsmax, almost a complete 3 years later.
Henry, who was fired in July 2020, has been keeping a low profile and filing lawsuits against CNN, FOX and NPR. But if the trend (or math) is right, we should see him back behind the cameras by Summer of 2023.
Ok i not picking on certain folks, they all came to mind quickly, some get busted for sexual misconduct like former NBC’er Matt Lauer and CBS’ Charlie Rose, but then there’s NBC’s Brian Williams
Poor Brian’s world came crashing down 6 years ago with his imaginative mind with fabricating details of storytelling. OK, I’m not going into all the details but he once sat on the Nightly News throne only to be pushed out because he couldn’t keep his personal stories straight and sent back to the late night shift after a 6 month suspension. So he fabricated stories and got a 6 month non-paid suspension.
In the end it looks like if you’re a male talking head whose been fired for sexual misconduct, don’t fret, just make sure you’ve got your finances in order to have a 3 year shelf life, keep in contact with any upstart tv news division and you’ll be back on air in no time.
But what happens to the (male/female) victims and/or whistleblowers, is there a statute of limitation placed on their head as well?
