A grocery store cashier asked a customer in Georgia to put on a face mask. He pulled out a gun and shot her – By Chris Hopkins (Pennlive) / June 15 2021

A cashier at a Georgia grocery store was shot and killed around 1 p.m. Monday during a dispute with a man over a face mask, according to CBS46.

The incident occurred when the female employee asked the man to put on a mask, witnesses told the news station. The man left the store without making a purchase, but immediately returned, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement. He then “walked directly back to the cashier, pulled out a handgun and shot her,” the GBI said.

The GBI have identified the suspect as Victor Lee Tucker, Jr., 30.

A DeKalb County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit deputy, who worked part-time as security at the Big Bear Supermarket grocery store, returned fire on Tucker, striking him multiple times, the report said. He was then shot. The deputy was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning, the report said.

Tucker was arrested “as he was attempting to crawl out the front door of the supermarket,” the GBI said in the statement. He was then taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, the report said.

A second cashier was grazed by a bullet during the shooting. She was treated for her injury at the scene, according to the report. Police will be taking arrest warrants for him. Charges were not immediately available.
