    After man survives Shawnee Park pit bull attack, officials aim to stop illegal breeding – By Billy Kobin (Louisville Courier Journal) / Feb 13 2021

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. — David Weaver’s morning walk in Shawnee Park last month was going just fine.

    But about a mile into his walk on Jan. 15, the 62-year-old Louisville man, who is also a cycling enthusiast and former marathon runner, heard some dogs barking behind him as he was near the backside area of the park by the Ohio River.

    He turned around and noticed three stray pit bulls approaching from a wooded area.

    “I got a little nervous, but I just kept walking,” Weaver said. “I didn’t want to try to run or anything. Through the years, I’ve walked that park plenty of times, and sometimes dogs appear that just want someone to walk with.”

    However, when Weaver turned around again, he realized the dogs were not looking to become friends with him.
